I recently got a GA3 and I wanted to know where the battery is that keeps the memory when it is unplugged. I have looked in the service manual and online and found nothing. I wanted to replace it before it might be necessary because I have heard horror stories of batteries leaking and eating though circuit boards. I need to do this on a couple of organs.

Thank you,

Steven

Re: Battery for the GA3

There are two batteries soldered to the main voice board on the GA3. This is a generic board that is very similar to others in the range but the power supply and the batteries are the same in all of the models from that range.

You need to lift the top of the console and remove the left hand screening arrangement over the board.
The two cells are in fact not batteries but supercaps or ultracaps which really don't leak like batteries. They do occasionally fail though so it is best to just measure the volts across them and confirm they are both fine. 3.2-3.6 volts is about right. These are usually 1F 5.5volt components. The mounting position, edge on style, is less popular now and so you may find you have to search your stockists for a similar mounting pattern. You can however fit current types with some thick copper wire to run into the PCB.

Regards

Dave
