Technics KN7000 :: Technics Instruments Information and Timeline

Our timeline shows you the date your instrument was released along with other information such as whether it has velocity or aftertouch sensitivity, floppy drive and what type of power cable it requires.

This table is Work In Progress at present.

Key

A green tick means that the keyboard has this feature. In the case of manuals it means that the manual for your keyboard is available in our Members Area.
A red "X" means "Doesn't Exist" or "Doesn't Have This Feature" or "This model never had this type of manual".
A blank space means "We don't know yet, we're looking into it" or "We don't have this manual available yet".
Items in brackets were optional extras. E.g. (FY-FD3) illustrates an optional floppy drive that could be fitted.
User = User Manual available
Ref = Reference Guide available
Serv = Service Manual available
Vel = Velocity Sensitive Keyboard (usually known as Touch Sensitivity)
After = Has an Aftertouch keybed and responds to Aftertouch pressure following playing a key (NB. some instruments also respond to aftertouch over MIDI even if they don't have a physical aftertouch keybed).
MIDI - Lists the keyboard's MIDI compatibility (if any).

GM = General MIDI compatible (works between different manufacturers). Has 128 common instrument sounds
GM2 = General MIDI 2 compatible (has extended features and additional instrument sounds, works between different manufacturers). Has 256 common instrument sounds plus user patches.
NX = GM2 plus Technics extended MIDI features. NX instruments support a highly-extended set of MIDI features and sounds whilst maintaining GM2 compatibility. When connected with other NX instruments they will also select an appropriate equivalent sound, if the selected sound is not available on the second instrument. NX supports well over 2000 instrument sounds plus user patches.

Floppy - Lists the type of floppy disks that the instrument can use. Includes the model of the floppy drive where known.
Memory - The type of memory card or hard drive that the instrument can use.
Power - The type of power cable (power cord) that the instrument requires.
Cost - Approximate cost when new.

Hello Mike, i havej t;he technics kn 7000 keyboard , also the vArranger and the ketron sd 1000 connected with 2 usb cables. the vArrranger is showing that it is receiving chords and single notes from the kn 7000 but no sound is heard. see the photo I took to show Dan at vArranger.
it shows note off in every case it should show note on and notes off. please help .

Hi arjam, if vArranger is receiving notes then your KN7000 is set up correctly. The issue must be with the outgoing notes to the Ketron. Look into your midi settings in vArranger for the outgoing midi signals and make sure they are set to the Ketron. Of course, your audio outputs from the Ketron must be going to an amplifier, or routed into the KN7000 audio ports. Best wishes, Mike

Hello Mike,It has been some time since we last communicated with each other, many changes since then.I have sold all the Technics i.e KN 5000 and the organ--having several keyboards along the way until the Tyros 5 came to visit,I would best describe my relation as a love/hate kind of thing, at any rate it too has passed and I am working on a very nice one owner KN 6500(perhaps I've lost my mind in my old age 83 last) But the Technics is like an old friend that has reappeared.I have looking for the 7000 but this came along BUT it has a problem! From now any member who can offer advice or help will be much appreciated as I hope to return this keyboard to full use. The problem is in the main board test 9 WAVE ROM TEST--IC 210 is NG also IC 209 varies from O.K to also bad .All other test are good.This key board was used by a friend to gig with then he went to Tyros 2 at this time the Technics went back in the box and has been stored for several years,so the board looks and plays as new.So here is my quandary,Does it go to trash? Or is there some hope to bring this very nice produce back to life Kindest Regards Ernie

Hi Mike, I notice that in the Instruments Information section for the KN2400 and 2600, you do not list a reference guide. If this is because you do not have it available, I may be able to help.

I was given a KN2400 today which unfortunately is not producing any sound (question posted in the forum) and with it came the original owner's manual and reference guide, which is in English and German.

I'd be happy to scan it for you and send you the file as a pdf if it would be of any help. It's in pretty decent condition although the first few pages have some light brown staining on them but does not affect their legibility.

Let me know if you can use this.
